New kings have been crowned today in what would be regarded as a super Sunday in both football and the game of long tennis.
NAIJA SUPER 8:
Sporting Lagos emerges winner of the maiden edition of the Naija Super 8 played at Mobalaji Johnson Arena in Lagos. The delightful location in the past weeks hosted clubs voted in to partake in the competition by football enthusiasts in Nigeria.
From the six geopolitical zones of the country, clubs like Lobi Stars of Markurdi, Remo Stars of Ogun, Enyimba of Aba, Kastina United, Rivers United, Sporting Lagos, Akwa United of Akwa Ibom, and Yobe Dessert Stars all competed for the prize money of 25 million naira.
After a week of tight fixtures, Remo Stars and Sporting Lagos locked horns in the finals of the Naija Super 8, only for the young Sporting Lagos to beat the sky-blue stars on a penalty shot out after a one-one draw in the regular time.
DJOKOVIC DETHRONED:
After years of dominance in Wimbledon (2018 – 2022), Djokovic (36) faced a younger player in the Wimbledon final, Carlos Alcaraz (20) on to be beaten to the sports he had dominated in the past years.
Carlos Alcaraz defeated Novak Djokovic to win the Wimbledon men’s final, denying the Serbian a fifth consecutive title, in a five-set epic and one of the greatest matches ever played at the All England Club.
